Connor was absolutely perfect for his second haircut--perhaps not surprising since he was seated in a train, watching "Monsters University" and clutching two trucks. He might be ready to graduate to the barbershop for haircut #3.

We spent a beautiful Saturday introducing Grammy to Coney Island. After a quick stop at the aquarium, Graham threw himself in the surf while Connor tentatively got his toes wet.
Therese's e-mail of the week, entitled "Sanddollars and star fish":
Dear Parents,
We began this week examining gifts from the sea. We read A Gift From The Sea and made our own sand dollars using finger paint and sandpaper. We looked for patterns on the real sand dollars and listened quietly to see (hear) if they made a sound. They did.
We read a book about a trip to the aquarium and many people talked about their own visits and what they had seen. We made electric eels to swim in our ocean with the great shark. They were made using foil and oil (pastels). The children said eels are the same shapes as worms and snakes.
Our birthday fish swam across the classroom and into our ocean as well.
We also looked at pictures of jellyfish and created our own. The jellies are filled with feathers, pom poms, foam and cellophane. Their tentacles are long and enabled them to swim about the room at high speeds even though we read nothing of the sort about them. The ocean is teeming with fish but there are many more in the deep blue sea.
Music with Alex, fun as usual, was coupled with story telling dictation. The stories are evolving excitedly into tales of sea creatures, large and small.
We have been acting out our stories which feels a little like walking into a movie late and trying to figure out who's who. The children are acting out bear and crab walks, great sea creatures, spiders and tangled webs. The shows are high action and loud enough that the narrator can no longer be heard. Sometimes they just go off on their own, writing the next scene while acting the last. Tons of fun.
Oh, and we made starfish.
We are beginning to plan our show-ish for graduation day. Next week we will continue with storytelling and maybe take a dip in our tiny pool. Weather permitting we will ask you to send them to school in bathing suits. Not Monday, but maybe Tuesday.

Grammy, the boys, and I went to see some experimental children's theater at the New Vic in Times Square this afternoon. Connor took the participatory aspect of the show very seriously and sat on the stage for 95% of the production.

Local strawberries are at the food co-op; time to make strawberry milkshakes! Grammy was lucky enough to have some very helpful helpers.

Connor and Graham both had a great time at the prairie dog exhibit at the zoo today. Connor watched the prairie dogs and Graham raced around the viewing pods with a new friend he met at the zoo, pretending they were in some sort of space house. Different strokes!
