Therese's e-mail of the week, entitled, "I spy an eye pie":
Hi all,
We began our short week reading I Spy (the book) and playing I Spy
(the game). Everyone got a turn to look in the mirror to see what
color eyes they see staring back. We talked about the different parts
of our eyes and what shapes we see. Each person got to color their
eyes on a piece of paper to add to our eye pie. We looked at all the
eye colors together to see which colors were more prominent. We then
counted them to get exact numbers. Guess what color is dominant in our
class?
Thursday and Friday we took turns using our sense of smell to sniff
different boxes and guess what was inside. Some guesses were: a crane,
oranges, tomatoes, baba, mint, a seed pit, a rotten flower, a skunk,
chocolate, some kind of plant, and my stuffy. We read Mice Squeak, We
Speak and made animal sounds listening with our sense of hearing.
We had our second fire drill and left the building quickly and
quietly. Then we played in the yard. We read Fire! Fire!
We examined alphabet pictures and thought about whether they had
scents or not. The children agreed apples smell sweet but wagons do
not.
Quiet time is very quiet. There are six people who have made it into
the Sleep Book. Zzzzzzzzzzz.
Friday we used our sense of touch to guess what was in the Feely Box.
Six people guessed it was a ball. Close, so close.
Next week we will use our sense of taste, and play games that
encourage conversation about rules and why they're important.
We also will begin yoga with Frank. In preparation, we read Yoga and
struck many poses.
